And so do my thoughts.<br />
Between the 19 hours I am taking, the social life I am trying to have, and the sleep I am unsuccessfully trying to get, blogging is just not something I have time to do (although apparently I have time to browse Pinterest until 3am when I should be sleeping. Or studying. But whatever) Anyways, speaking of Pinterest, I found something on there just now that I wanted to share :) It said:<br />
<br />
"I know you lost someone and it hurts. You may have lost them suddenly, unexpectedly. Or perhaps you began losing pieces of them until one day, there was nothing left. You may have known them all your life or you may barely know them at all. Either way, it is irrelevant. You cannot control the depth of a wound another soul inflicts on you. Which is why I am <i>not </i>here to tell you that tomorrow is another day.That the sun will go on shining. Or there are plenty of fish in the sea.What I will tell you is this; it's okay to be hurting as much as you are. What you are feeling is not only completely valid, but necessary. Because it makes you so much more human. And though I can't promise you that it will get better anytime soon, I can tell you that it will. Eventually. For now, all you can do it take your time. Take all the time you need." -Lang Leave<br />
<br />
I love that. It has occurred to me recently as I have watched myself, and other people around me, go through hard things, that people really beat themselves up for being sad. They don't let themselves feel it. It's like they don't think it's okay for them to be hurting. It's not okay for them to not be okay. So, they push it away and smile and pretend to not be sad. And it's not just in the context of losing someone, like that quote focused on. But also just in a general sense. Anything that could make you sad or hurt your feelings. There was another quote that I found (also on Pinterest because thats apparently what I do with my life) and it said something along the lines of "I find it much more bearable to be sad when I'm not constantly beating myself for being sad." I couldn't find it again and I dont remember the exact wording or who said it. But it's so very true. It's okay to be sad and to admit to yourself and other people that you're sad. Don't torture yourself by biting your lip and denying it. That always just makes you sadder. Sadness isn't weakness. Anyone can cover up their feelings and pretend to be on top of the world. But showing your vulnerability. That's brave.KaleighBrookehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18169848439792366742noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8019289960182456788.post-20330116867934836322012-09-30T21:39:00.001-07:002012-09-30T21:56:46.994-07:00Being 20. Grown Up Things. It turns out that being 20 is a whole lot like being 19. Nothing really changes. Don't look any different. Dont feel any different. No one treats me any different. People still guess that I am about 15 years old, so that might be why people still treat me like a 15 year old. The looks that I get when I tell people that I am a junior in college are priceless. The looks are often followed by asking for proof. So, I show them my driver's lisence so that I can prove that I am indeed 20 years old. I got my ears pierced a few months ago and the woman wasn't going to let me get them done without my mom being there, but when I told her that I was legally old enough to do it on my own she didn't believe me. She checked my ID 4 times. Then, as she jammed needles through my ears, she chatted about how it just blew her mind that I wasn't 15. I dont see it, but I guess one day Ill be happy that people think I am so young. There is a down side to this, though. Guys. 12-17 year old guys LOVE to hit on me. They think I'm their age, so they think that this flirting is actually going to get them somewhere. It's cute. At first. The good guys around my age think I'm too young for them so they never talk to me. The creepy guys around my age also think Im too young, but they're creepy so they don't care. Sometimes I feel like I should wear a tshirt that says, "I'M 20 YEARS OLD." just so that there is no confusion. But that's just a bad idea. So there's that.<br />
<br />
<br />
Being a junior, on the other hand, is different than being a sophomore. Junior year is NO JOKE. Im trying to find internships and jobs and trying to get published and classes are insane and all my friends are getting married, and things are changing. I've never been good at change. But it's happening and it's happening fast! Im doing my best to handle it gracefully, so we'll see how I do. I am like the QUEEN of being confused and not knowing what to do. There's this beautiful 6 week internship opportunity calling me in Chicago. Sounds like a no brainer, but Im going to be out on my own soon enough so do I want to go off for one of my last summers with my whole family together? It's such a great opportunity though. I don't know if I should take it or pass on it. I love love love being a nanny and I wont be able to do it forever so I also want to do that for as long as I can before I have to be a REAL grown up and get a job. I want to go I want to stay I want to go I want to stay. It makes me tired. All my friends are getting married and engaged and Im over here hopelessly single. Im really okay with being single because God can really work in and through me in this time but sometimes I get a bit restless. I had always thought I'd at least know who I was going to be with by this point. That may be a bit irrational since Im only 20, but a lot of my friends are already there! Im just ready for that part of my future I think. Im not like out looking to marry the next guy who smiles at me, but I am definitely ready to find the right one that God has for me. Maybe God is teaching me patience. I have so many plans and dreams and hopes and some are realistic and some aren't so realistic, but I wouldn't be me if I didnt have at least a FEW insane ideas up my sleeve :) I never know what to tackel first or which ones are best left as a dream I used to have. So basically I know that in the matter of a couple short years Im going to have to buck up and be an adult and that scares me a little. Im excited about it for the most part, there's just so many things I want to do. I don't want to be one of those people who has this big extraordinary bucket list and then they grow up and they get a job and they dont do any of it. Walt Disney himself that that's the real problem with the world. Too many people grow up. I want to be able to grow up, fall in love, get a great job, have a family, and still do all the things I dreamed of doing. Too many people grow up and they stop dreaming. The world wears them down and it loses it's magic. Right now the world is still a very magical place to me and I don't want to ever ever lose that. Mostly, I want to keep that and be able to share it with those around me and eventually teach my kids to see the world that way. It's also possible that I think far far too deeply into everything. THANKFULLY I serve a God who is bigger than any of these worries and has a plan better than any of these opportunities. They may or may not include these opportunitites. If they do, thats wonderful. If not, it's just because He had better ones in mind. But me, being me, I like to know where Im going from here and the next step I should take. So I stress! God is faithful. But Im going to sleep now. I have class at 10 and my professor got a tad irritated last time I fell asleep :)KaleighBrookehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18169848439792366742noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8019289960182456788.post-14479255985986077672012-07-22T00:46:00.002-07:002012-07-22T00:46:37.542-07:00Life is a funny thing.Life really is a terribly funny (sometimes not so funny) thing and everyday I grow more and more thankful that the God who created the universe is in control of even the most trivial parts of my life. I am lying here in bed unable to do anything but think about every stupid thing I've ever done. Every wonderful person I ever hurt. Every blessing I didn't take the time to be thankful for. Every day I wasted and every friendship I lost. And it's nights like these that I am unbelievable thankful for my wonderful Jesus. I get stressed out over the tiniest things, but I just have to step back and remeber that God is in control of all of the things that are keeping me up tonight. He has a plan for them. A beautiful plan for all the ugly messes I've made. Praise Him for that. Tonight Im finding it really hard not to beat myself up for stupid mistakes I made years ago. I find myself wishing I had held on tighter to and appreciated some people who were good to me and let go of some people who weren't. I find myself wishing I had done a lot of things differently. I'm wondering how differently my life might have gone thus far had I done those things differently. Where would I be? Who would be in my life? Would I be the person I've grown into the past few years? There's literally like a zillion questions bouncing around in my brain right now. I have to remember, though, that what's done is done and no matter how badly I want to go back and change things, I cant. God has done amazing things in me and through me the past few years. Had anything been different, that may not have happened. I may not be who I am and I may not have been able to touch some of the lives that I've touched. It's easy to forget that the things that have happened had a purpose and my life went the way it did for a reason. Not all of it has been fun. A lot of it has been pretty amazing. But both the good and the bad were all part of a bigger story that God has been writing for me. I have to believe in that and I can't let nights like tonight get me so carried away in regrets that I forget about the great things that God has done in my life. Thankful for His unconditional love. Heaven's knows I've not done anyhting to warrant a love like that, but it's a gift. He loves us even when we aren't loving Him and that is something that I just can't fully understand. So, when I look back on the past 20 years of my life, I can either choose to see the trail of messes and mistakes I left or I can choose to see the masterpiece that God has created using all the good and bad parts of the past 20 years. I will choose to see how He has taken it all and woven it into something that I can be proud of. Not, by any means, because of anything I have done, but because of what He did for me despite the things I did. Im learning to accept the things I can't change and trusting the Lord to help me do something about the things I can change. Im so done trying to do things on my own. I am pretty positive trying to take care of myself was how I got myself into all these messes in the first place. I am aware more than ever how badly I need Jesus and how apart from Him, things fall apart. Thankful that no matter how many times you've walked away, He always takes you back into His arms, no questions asked. This is also one of those nights where my brain is in a zillion places, so I hope this all flowed together ok and makes sense :)KaleighBrookehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18169848439792366742noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8019289960182456788.post-83948810692431119332012-06-25T19:15:00.000-07:002012-06-25T19:15:09.960-07:00Nanny in New YorkIf you know me, you probably also know how much of a dreamer I am. You've heard all my crazy plans and watched me chase a lot of crazy dreams just to move on to another crazy dream. I had a bit of a wake up call recently what I realized that I am almost 20 years old and no closer to knowing what I want to be when I grow up than I was when I was 4. And when I was 4 I wanted to be a professional princess. (Ok, so I still think if possible ways for me to become an actual princess, but that's beside the point.) I realized that I can chase dream after dream after dream, but if I dont find one that I love enough to finish and one that sticks (and pays the bills) then Im going to have some problems. SO. I have this new plan. One that may still be a little crazy, but hey, would you ever expect anything less from me?! :) You can probably figure out what this new plan is from my fun little title. Yes, I want to move to NYC and be a nanny. Im possibly graduating in the spring and I've always wanted to live in NYC for a year or so. What better way than to find a live in nanny job! It gives me a job and a place to live and keeps me from being completely alone in a giant city I've never been to before. I am so excited I can hardly stand it. I've always been fascinated with New York. I've lived in the itty bitty town of Montevallo for as long as I can remember. The largest city Ive navigated on my own is downtown Birmingham and that hardly counts. The prospect of living on my own in this gigantic place I've neer been to has me speechlessly excited. I still have a year of school (possibly 2) and then I have to apply to jobs and get hired. There are still a lot of ifs and fuzzy places and Im not sure where the life plan goes from there, but thats ok! I apologize in advance if all I ever talk about between now and when I actually move is New York, but if you only knew how excited I am, you might understand. This is a rather new development in the life of me, but it's now what I want and what I am working for. If the plan changes, then it changes, but Im really hoping this one sticks :) Either way, itll be fun to look back a year from now and see what the plan actually turns out to be!<br />

Hang with me. I've been thinking a lot about happiness and unhappiness and where (besides Jesus, obviously) happiness comes from and how to deal with times of unhappiness and what not. There is this part of an episode of One Tree Hill where they talk about happiness as being an emotion rather than a destination or a thing that can be obtained. Clearly, OTH isn't exactly what I should be basing my thoughs about life on, but it made a good point. Life is hard. That is inevitable and I feel like a lot of people "just want to be happy." They want a certain car or a certain job or to live in a certain place or to be with a certain person. In most cases, people think that happiness is ALL of these things combined. If they just had this pretty picture of a life that they've imagined, then they would just be happy. NEWSFLASH. That isn't how life works. Happiness is an emotion and a fleeting one at that. Life has ups and downs and even when it seems like we have all the things we could possibly want, there will still be times when things are just plain hard and happiness is nowhere to be found. I think it helps to think about happiness that way. It helps thinking of it as something that can't really be obtained. You can have happiness. TONS of it even, but there is no way (earthly way, that is) to ensure constant happiness. There is nothing of this world that can satisfy us enough to where we are content. If we run around the world looking for things to make us happy, the world will always let us down. You might be happy for a while, but you're eventually going to run back into some unhappiness somewhere along the way. God never promises that we won't go through hard times, he just promises to be with us every step of the way. He'd never throw something at us that we couldn't handle. I have found that when things seem too hard for me, it's usually because I have the mindset that I can do it alone. Without God. The reality is that I can't do anything without Him. He is the center of all happiness and the only thing that will never let me down. The only thing that will satisfy me fully. The only sure thing to lean on during the times of unhappiness so that you can get through to the happy. <br />
<br />
So there's one topic.<br />
<br />
I just cant handle people who won't deal with stuff. People who just straight up give up when they don't know what to say or how to get through something or they just don't want to face whatever it is that they need to handle. I. Cant. Stand. It. And here are a few reasons why.<br />
<br />
1) It's selfish<br />
2) It hurts you and the others involved<br />
3) It fixes absolutely NOTHING<br />
<br />
Don't run away when things get difficult. Face it and deal with things before they get worse than they have to be. I've seen this happen over and over and over again. Life gets tough (unhappiness) and instead of just fixing it and dealing with it then and there, people put it off and ignore it and make excuses and it spirals until it's some huge ordeal that wasn't there in the first place. And that's really annoying for everyone involved.<br />
<br />
Rant over.<br />
<br />
One more.<br />
<br />
Sometimes I get restless. It happens. I want to get away and have an adventure. I want to get out of my hometown and go get lost somewhere I've never been. But I can't let these desires to get away distract me from what God has for me here. I can't get so focused on getting out and leaving that I miss out on the opportunities to share the gospel or to help someone. I am where I am for a purpose. God has me here for a reason and I need to be focused on finding that purpose and fulfilling it. If God's plan takes me elseswhere, then I will go. But for right now, my home is in Montevallo, Alabama and there is a reason for that. Not saying that there is something wrong with getting away and having an adventure, but I never want to get so set on leaving that I miss out on what the Lord might use me to do here. <br />
<br />
Ok, Im finished :)<br />

I've seen it in my own life and I've seen it in the lives of the people around me. we can't just do what we please without taking into account the people our actions might effect. Maybe laughing at the girl who is different than you is fun, but chances are it's only fun for you. Maybe you thought the kind words you said to the cashier today were meaningless, but maybe they saved her life. I'm sure you weren't trying to be a bad example when you mouthed off to the man who accidentally cut you off at the grocery store, but that little boy saw the whole thing. These are all just silly examples I pulled out of thin air, but I've seen each one of these happen. It isn't that this is a new concept to me, but I've never really realized how much I can effect people that I dont even know are watching me. People I'll never see again. I have no way of knowing what these people are facing and I have no idea how my actions might effect them. Good or bad. Maybe I've been hit with this realization because I have had a lot of careless people in my life who acted how they pleased without stopping to even notice that I was getting hurt as a result of their carelessness or maybe because I have had to make some important decisions lately that have called for me to account for the effects it will have on those in my immediate circle. Maybe it's just this growing up thing again. Common courtesy doesn't seem to be such a common thing anymore and maybe this is another reason I've been seeing this so much lately. People just dont seem to care about other people. They care about themselves and the needs of everyone around them comes second. People don't seem to think that what they do, what they say, how they say it, how they treat others, etc. matters to anyone but them. The selfishness of people astounds me. I'm not claiming to be blameless here. I'm stubborn and I can be selfish and I know I'm not always a glittery ray of sunshine like some people seem to think, but I try to account for the feelings of the people around me in my every day life. I've found that consideration for strangers is becoming harder and harder to find. I don't have some great profound thoughts on this, it's just been on my mind and I felt the need to ramble. I think it's really important, especailly as Christians, that we are demonstrating Christ's love and kindness and grace during the most seemingly mundane parts of our lives. We need to be the ones setting the example for unbelievers. We are the body of Christ, but we can't just claim this and not live it out. When people look at us and interact with us, they need to see something different. It needs to be evident in our everyday living that there is something different about us. When they see us they should see Jesus.<br />
<br />
"We stand for those who can not stand for themselves and we love the loveless and we go where Your lights not shining. We are the body of Christ."KaleighBrookehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18169848439792366742noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8019289960182456788.post-68048670536123046492012-05-19T22:37:00.001-07:002012-05-19T22:37:56.257-07:00Summer.Ah summer. Ti's the season of me promising myself to keep up with this blog. If you're one of the 7 people who probably actually read this, you probably aren't getting your hopes up right now. Ha! Worst. Blogger. Ever. But hey, I'm in college and school keeps me busy and when I'm not studying (which is like....never) I'm sleeping. But it's summer now and I'll have lots of free time to write about things you may or may not care about reading :) For those who enjoy learning about what is going on in my life, here it is!<br />
<br />
I have no idea what I want to do with my life which is why I currently have a general studies major. My school allowed me to believe that I had at least two years to decide my major, BUT that was a big fat lie. I decided on elementary education, but, much to my dismay, upon my meeting with my advisor, I was told that I would be in school for at least 3 more years. And that was only if I took full loads EVERY summer between now and then. If you know me at all you know that this did not settle well with me. So, I called my mom and cried a lot. Deciding on your future is stressful. High stress situations result in tears if you're me. Anyways, I talked to my parents about it and told them some of the things I was thinking I'd like to do and they both agreed that I would do well with a Gen. Ed. degree. Here is the list of careers in my idea bank. Many of you will be surprised when being an actress is NOT on that list. .....Mrs. Flickinger, you win ;) hahaha just kidding of course. Love you lady! <br />
<br />
1) Non-profit organization that helps with the rescue and recovery of girls caught in human trafficking. <br />
I am almost an expert on this topic. It has consumed my heart and my mind and I ache for these girls daily. Girls JUST like me. I need to help them.<br />
<br />
2) My sister and I have been talking about opening up a cute little gift shop. Not to brag, but we are both really crafty and pretty creative so we figured we'd sell a lot of handmade stuff and things like that. It would take a lot for this to happen, but I think it would be wonderful! And who better to have a business with than my very best friend?<br />
<br />
3) Wedding planner. I am in love with all things wedding. I love the lace and the twinkly lights and the cake and the lists and the craziness and it is just something I would really love to do. I wouldn't even know where to begin, but I'm sure I could find someone to help me :)<br />
<br />
Those are my top 3. Take note that music and acting are NOT on the list. That is because they are no longer in my top 3. I cant really explain to you what happened, but something changed inside. Very fast and without me even knowing it until it hit me like a ton of brick one day and results, yet again, in me calling my mom in tears. My poor mom. But, I think it's called growing up. It's a dream and it was fun to chase it, but it was happening for me. I was slowly starting to get everything I had ever wanted and I guess it was becoming very real and forcing me to realize a lot of things. I HATE goodbyes. Hate. Sometimes they are good for you and sometimes they are necessary, but I hate them. My life was slowly but surely becoming a long string of goodbyes. Most of them were more like "see you laters" but after a conversation I had with the director who was molding me to be thrown out into show business, I realized that it was only going to get worse and turn into long, more permanent goodbyes. I guess that is when it changed for me. I booked a photo shoot and I was making all these trips to Atlanta to work with all of these amazing and talented professionals. I had a style team. I was already being told how to dress and what to do with my hair and I wasn't allowed to drink soda and I had to dye my hair brown and I had to do this and I had to do that. And at first, it was great, but then I started missing out on stuff. Going to my photo shoot was going to cause me to miss out on something else. For some people, I guess these sacrifices are worth it, but they just made me heartsick. I want a family very badly and I have since I was a little girl. Even then , being a rock star and being a mom were conflicting dreams. I can't have that if I'm flying around all the time to auditions or whatever. I want to be there for my family every single day and I dont want to miss out on the little everyday things that I wouldn't get to be a part of if I had to have a nanny to raise my kids because I was off pursuing this dream I decided to chase when I was 17. When I was younger, I thought I could have both. The difference is when I was little, I wasn't already living the life of hotel rooms and "sorry I cant be there I have to work." I had begun to live that life and it was happening quick. I was eventually going to start not only driving to Atlanta for the weekends, but flying to LA for auditions and then what if I get the role? Then I leave for good. Then what if I'm successful and I'm all over the place and I never see my family and I'm 35 and single and I haven't seen my family in 6 years and stuff. I know that may be a bit exaggerated, but it gets the point across. My director had much faith in me and in the successfulness of my career. An aspiring actress should be THRILLED to hear a former actor and now successful director thinks you're going places, but mostly I was just terrified. I was so sure that God wanted me pursuing this. I believed it, my family believed it. But if it's truly where God wanted me, it shouldn't make me so ill. I believe that is should scare me, but it shouldn't feel the way all of that was making me feel. The glamor had worn off and it wasn't fun anymore. It was work. A lot of work. It was a lot of being told who to be and how to be that person and how to impress the agents and how to look the way I needed to look so that I would get booked. It was a lot of being told to be okay with being talked down to. It was a lot of being told to be okay with the prospect of being 60 and having not had a stable home in 35 years because of the constant moving around. (those were actual words from someone who was coaching me) All in all, now that I've lived, at least in part, the life that I thought I wanted, I don't want it. That is okay for some people and God uses those people, but I just don't believe anymore that I'm one of them. And for once, I can finally and truthfully say that I'm okay with that. My life is not my own and God is going to use me where He wants to use me and ultimately, it isn't up to me. His plans are perfect and I have to trust that. So for those of you who don't know how important acting has always been to me, I basically just gave up my life and I feel good about that but it was also a hard thing to do and a hard decision to make. To give up on this thing you've stayed up thinking about since you were 3. But I feel really good about it and I've realized recently just how much my life is not my own. I thought I was giving all of this stuff up so I could throw myself into my acting career, but as it turns out, God had other plans. I gave up a lot of things to clear my schedule and save money, but all the free time went to being with my family when they have needed me more than ever and pouring into people I never would have been able to otherwise. I thought I was doing this one thing to fulfill my own dreams, but it ended up allowing God to use my life for the good of those around me. And I was blessed in all of it as well. God works in mysterious way and He surprises you and interrupts your plans, but that is only because He has a beautiful story written for you. Sometimes it's just not the story you were expecting. So pray for me! Pray that I'll find my direction and find where I'm supposed to be. <br />

I have been given the amazing opportunity to be a part of the leadership team for my campus ministry, Ecclesia. I am one of the four Freshman girls Bible study leaders. I am SO excited to pour into these girl's lives. I haven't met them yet and they already hold such a special place in my heart. I wouldn't have made it had it not been for the amazing girls in my small group. Bailey, MY Bible study leader was such an amazing encourager and role model and sister and I have some big shoes to fill :) I have an amazing co-leader though, Mechay. I look up to that girl so much and I'm excited to lead with her. I just know that my girls are going to challenge me and that through leading them, I'm going to grow a lot as well. I'm spending the summer, along with the other new leaders, preparing ourselves and out hears and minds to be the best possible leaders we can be. I don't take this leadership role lightly, because I know from personal experience how much of a difference someone in my position can make in the life of a young girl. It's a huge responsibility, but I have an amazing team supporting me and amazing co-leaders to team up with. And I have the girls. They help you lead, or so I have been told, soooooo I am banking on that promise :) I'm a little bit nervous because I do feel the weight of my role on this leadership team, but I'm not worried. It's going to be an amazing experience and I'm so thankful for it!<br />
<br />
I might be graduating in the Spring. O_o ahhhhhhhhhhhhh. It's not a for sure thing, but it's a maybe. I really insane, scary maybe. <br />
<br />
If you spent the last 10 minutes of your life reading this entire thing, I thank you. I am sure you had better things to do. I'm working at camp again, so if you read my A Day in the Life of a Camp Counselor blog last summer, stay tuned :)<br />

I was really hyper and goofing around with my sisters all day and had a really fun day, but if you were to look inside my head, you would have seen a totally different person! I said way too many "why me's" and "whats if's". I felt sorry for myself and wondered why I've had to go through and deal with some of the things I have. Granted, some of them were really hard things to go through and hurt to think about even now, but as I was sitting at dinner tonight with my amazing family, I realized how selfish I was being all day! There I was feeling so sorry for myself because things didn't go my way again. Lets think about this. Im sitting in a nice restaraunt. With my entire family. Eating a nice dinner. Wearing a new warm coat. Updating my Facebook status from my iPhone. Talking about some of my college classes. I then left and got into my car. Went home to my warm house full of Christmas decorations and "stuff". Now Im sitting here on my laptop watching a movie on my plasma screen tv. I had ALL of that going my way today and I was feeling sorry for myself. Those are all very superficial things, but they are things that I have been blessed with nonetheless and clearly I take them for granted. Aside from the material things , there are people who have lost and gone through so much more than I could ever imagine and Christmas seems to make all those hurts hurt worse. People are spending Christmas missing loved ones. People are spending Christmas alone. Someone will spend their Christmas in a hospital. Someone will spend their Christmas overseas. Someone will spend their Christmas out in the cold. But me? I'll be spending Christmas at home with all of the people that I love. Rough life, huh? After taking a step back and thinking outside my own head for a minute, I realized REALLY quick that there is just no way to justify the attitude I've had all day. So yes, things didnt go my way again. I feel let down and disappointed, but the things I'm feeling bad about become obsolete when I think about it in the big picture. Besides, I know this simply means this isn't where God wanted me. That wasn't what I was supposed to be doing and that's not the road I was supposed to be headed down. Maybe I learned that the semi hard way, but I learned. And any hurts will be healed and I'll be thankful for this farther on down the road. His ways are higher.</div><div> </div><div>Getting so close to Passion 2012!! Can. Not. Wait. I'm so ready for it! I need it Lord, teach me!</div><div> </div><div>On a lighter note, I'm watching Jurassic Park and wondering how on earth I ever watched this as a child. There are videos of the 2 year old me telling the camera that Jurassic Park was my favorite movie. This movie is intense for a baby!! </div><div> </div><div> </div>KaleighBrookehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18169848439792366742noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8019289960182456788.post-46884995590957939592011-12-15T17:02:00.000-08:002011-12-15T17:32:05.525-08:00Ramblings.<div>I haven't posted in this blog for almost exactly a year. That. Is. Crazy. Every year seems to go by that much quicker. This fact makes me less than happy! So much has happened in this year. I feel like I said that very thing this time LAST year. I guess that just goes to show that no matter how much you think you know, a year later you'll look back and realize you really didn't know anything at all. I'm sure a year from now I'll be saying the exact same thing. </div><div> </div><div>SO, lessons I've learned this year.</div><div>1) Take the time to stop, no matter what is going on in your life, and be thankful. Think about that pencil you're holding. It's something small that we never stop to thank the Lord for, but some people would feel rich if they were holding that pencil. Be thankful for class. That's the hardest thing for me to be thankful for.</div><div> </div><div>2) Talk to someone much older than you. Take their advice and soak up their wisdom. You'll be so glad you did.</div><div> </div><div>3) Be nice to people. You never know what someone might be dealing with. I was having a really bad day and a random girl that was ringing me up at the grocery store was SO sweet to me. It made my day. On the other hand, I was having a bad day and someone was really mean to me. I cried all the way home. You could make or break a persons day.</div><div> </div><div>4) Be creative. Paint or learn to knit. Look up craft ideas online and make something.</div><div> </div><div>5) Take time for yourself. It's okay to not do everything for everyone all the time. People will understand.</div><div> </div><div>6) Stand up for yourself. Say what you feel. Don't keep things in. Don't take things you don't deserve. You'll drown in your own emotion if you live life that way. Defend yourself and do it with love.</div><div> </div><div>7) Spend the day with a child. You'll be surprised how much wisdom their little words can hold.</div><div> </div><div>8) Trust in the Lord's timing. "He has made EVERYTHING beautiful in it's time." -Ecclesia 3:11</div><div>His plan is perfect. I thought I had learned this lesson last year, but I have recently realized how much I need to trust more in His timing and less in where I think I should be. </div><div> </div><div>9) Love everyone. Give your heart to the people who deserve it. </div><div> </div><div>10) Don't lose faith in love. It's beautiful. Don't lose faith in people. Love them instead. Don't lose faith in yourself. You're stronger than you think!</div><div> </div><div>Im making a resolution to actually keep up with this blog. More for myself. I like to go back remind myself of things. BUT, if any of you actually take time out of your day to read my ramblings, that's cool too :)</div><div> </div><div>I moved back home. That's a longer story for another post, but long story short, I have opportunities and I am going to take them! I'm very excited about the possibilities :) It invloves movies and that notebook of songs I've written. Yeeeeeeah!</div><div> </div><div>Right now I'm just thankful for Christmas break and thankful for all the sparkly decorations that surround me everyday during the holiday season. It's like magic. Spending time with people I love and reconnecting with people I've missed. Love. </div><div> </div><div>If you spent your valuable time reading all of this, I thank you :) You've helped make this blog a little less pointless!</div>KaleighBrookehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18169848439792366742noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8019289960182456788.post-44588895302520792842011-02-17T11:33:00.000-08:002011-02-17T12:54:31.741-08:00<div><br /><br /><div><br /><br /><br /><div><br /><br /><div><div>I am in love with the year 2011 thus far. :) School has been insanely busy and I've gotten sick a million times and have been literally drowning in makeup work, but life is just so much happier these days. Letting go of things from your past and things that weigh you down..things that happened and you cant change therefore aren't worth your time...feels amazingly wonderful. Looking ahead with a positive attitude and an open mind seems to make the sun shine a little bit brighter. </div><div> </div><div>I was recently formally pledged to Phi Mu! I am loving it so much. I've met so many great girls and made so many new friends the past few weeks. I'm so excited about it and can't wait until things really get going and I'm more involved. I get iniciated in April and then I'll be an active member. Right now Im a provisional member and technically called a Phi. I get my Mu when I get iniciated :) I have a Big, but I don't know who she is yet. I get to find out in about 3 weeks and Im soooo excited! She gave me such a sweet sweet gift Tuesday and I can't wait till I can thank HER for it and not all the girls just so I make sure I cover anyone it could be!<br /><br /></div><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mz0rYqPzYnU/TV1-3Qm1ZjI/AAAAAAAAACw/yEMhz8jjWqk/s1600/2011%2B2-6%2BFormal%2BPledging%2B%252822%2529.JPG"><img style="WIDTH: 320px; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5574751401570297394" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mz0rYqPzYnU/TV1-3Qm1ZjI/AAAAAAAAACw/yEMhz8jjWqk/s320/2011%2B2-6%2BFormal%2BPledging%2B%252822%2529.JPG" /></a>This is my beautiful Phi Class! I love these girls already and am very happy to get to share this with them.</div><div> </div><div>I was reading one of my sister's blogs and she wrote something that was not only beautifully said, but definitely hit home for me. She said, "One thing is certain- we're all connected. And we can't see these connections. Only He can. Thank God only He can. I'd probably have an anxiety attack if I knew what I had comin. Two years ago I would have tried to change what ended up happening, but then I wouldn't think like I do, and I wouldn't laugh like I do, and I wouldn't thank like I do." (Compliments of Mechay Rush :) <a href="http://mechayrush.blogspot.com/">http://mechayrush.blogspot.com/</a>) I've been thinking the past few days about how my actions and my decisions effect everyone around me..not just me. Reverse that..others decisions and actions can effect me as well, even if they don't even have me in mind while they are making said decision. A decision I made over a year ago is directly effecting someone I care for very much now, a year later, and I hardley knew this person back then. Had I known how things were going to play out and where I would be today, I would have done everything completely different. But, what kind of person would I be now? I would I appreciate the people in my life as much? No. Would I be careful with how I react and handle things? No. Would I be as compassionate as I am? Doubt it. Would I be as thankful as I am for God's grace and mercy? Doubt that as well. There are so many aspects of myself that would be different now had I known everything before it happened and changed it before it could get to me. So, while its so important to make the right decisions and take in account everyone it could effect instead of just thinking about yourself, it's also important to remember that God is in control and while we make our own decisions with our own free will, He will use those decisions to get us to where we need to be. I may have had to go through some rough times to get to where I am now, and where I am now is better than I could have dreamed life would be a year ago. </div><br /><br /><br /><br /><div></div><br /><br /><br /><br /><div>So now...pictures I feel need to be shared :)</div><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-L8YoLc9UJX0/TV2E4M_FviI/AAAAAAAAAC4/nCk94YLufCo/s1600/2011%2B2-6%2BFormal%2BPledging%2B%25287%2529.JPG"><img style="WIDTH: 320px; HEIGHT: 214px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5574758014847925794" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-L8YoLc9UJX0/TV2E4M_FviI/AAAAAAAAAC4/nCk94YLufCo/s320/2011%2B2-6%2BFormal%2BPledging%2B%25287%2529.JPG" /></a> she's just so cute<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dlC9T4Bdohs/TV2JTG5HqrI/AAAAAAAAADA/0TuC8sYLz5k/s1600/2010%2B7-26%2B%25286%2529.JPG"><img style="WIDTH: 320px; HEIGHT: 214px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5574762875115252402" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dlC9T4Bdohs/TV2JTG5HqrI/AAAAAAAAADA/0TuC8sYLz5k/s320/2010%2B7-26%2B%25286%2529.JPG" /></a> this speaks for itself..</div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AQ8f44YYuRE/TV2JThZcABI/AAAAAAAAADI/qUVKcNBB0NI/s1600/385.JPG"><img style="WIDTH: 319px; HEIGHT: 241px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5574762882230124562" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AQ8f44YYuRE/TV2JThZcABI/AAAAAAAAADI/qUVKcNBB0NI/s320/385.JPG" /></a>fun times in Jackson Mississippi :)<br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HM5QUO_zlHo/TV2JT58AE3I/AAAAAAAAADQ/rafhlOWGI8Q/s1600/nebraska%2B228.JPG"><img style="WIDTH: 320px; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5574762888817546098" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HM5QUO_zlHo/TV2JT58AE3I/AAAAAAAAADQ/rafhlOWGI8Q/s320/nebraska%2B228.JPG" /></a>fun times at the St. Louis Arch :)<br /><div></div><br /><br /><br /><div></div><br /><br /><br /><div></div></div></div></div></div>KaleighBrookehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18169848439792366742noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8019289960182456788.post-29500020091749708832010-12-27T22:49:00.000-08:002010-12-27T23:52:44.792-08:00A new year...Spurgeon style.I found this old book in a bag in my grandmothers room. She reads like a crazy person and I go through her books when she's finished to see if there are any I want to read before she gives them away. I found a treasure in that bag Christmas Eve. It was a Charles Spurgeon devotion book. It looks old and smells old and is just full of things I cant wait to learn! Anyways, it's a year long book and starts on January 1st, but I was too excited so I went ahead and read the first days devotion. And boy am I glad I did. It gave me something to think about headed into this new year. Spurgeon starts off by saying,<br /> "Isreal's weary wanderings were now at an end, and the rest that had been promised was at hand. There would be no more roving tents, poisonous snakes, fierce Amalekites, nor any howling windswept wilderness. They had come to "the land flowing with milk and honey" (Ex. 3:8) and were able to eat of the grain aleady growing there."<br />New years can be scary. They are full of unknowns and sometimes you're still holding on to things from the past year. Maybe your 2010 was less than desirable. Maybe you went through a lot. Cried lots of tears. Lost lots of sleep. Maybe you are tired and weary of wandering around in the wilderness. Things like that make it scary to start a new year. How are we to know that this year won't be just as bad? Worse even. Well, unfortunately, we dont know. We have no idea what the future hold, but we DO know the one holding our future.<br /> "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."<br />--Jeremiah 29:11-13<br />That verse just fills up my heart. I dont know what's gonna happen to me this year. My 2010 was not a good year and I pray my 2011 is nothing like 2010, but it might be. I have no way of knowing, but I do know what God has promised me. He has promised me hope. He has promised me a future. He has promised that when I call on Him he will be there. He has promised me that if I seek Him with all my heart, I WILL find Him. I can't explain to you what that does to my heart. It overflows it with gratitude and love to a Savior who is good to me far beyond what I deserve. It gives me confidence going into this new year. I shouldn't be afraid. Being afraid to embark on this new adventure that is 2011, is almost insulting to my Creator who is in control of all things. It's almost as if I don't trust Him to fulfill His promises. So, I will go into this new year full of trust and reliance on my God to guide my steps and help me through whatever this year brings. I will not be afraid of what it brings, but I will be excited to find out where God takes me. What He teaches me and how He uses me for His Kingdom's cause.<br /><br />I see the King of glory<br />Coming on the clouds with fire<br />The whole earth shakes<br />The whole earth shakes<br /><br />I see His love and mercy<br />Washing over all our sins<br />The people sing<br />The people sing<br /><br />Hosanna, Hosanna<br />Hosanna in the highest<br />Hosanna, Hosanna<br />Hosanna in the highest<br /><br />I see a generation<br />Rising up to take their place<br />With selfless faith<br />With selfless faith<br /><br />I see a near revival<br />Stirring as we pray and seek<br />We're on our knees<br />We're on out knees<br /><br />Hosanna, Hosanna<br />Hosanna in the highest<br />Hosanna, Hosanna<br />Hosanna in the highest<br /><br />Heal my hearts and make it clean<br />Open up my eyes to the things unseen<br />Show me how to love like You have loved me<br /><br />Break my heart for what breaks yours<br />Everything I am for Your Kingdom's cause<br />As I walk from nothing to eternity<br /><br />Hosanna, Hosanna<br />Hosanna in the highest<br />Hosanna, Hosanna<br />Hosanna in the highest<br /><br />--HillsongKaleighBrookehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18169848439792366742noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8019289960182456788.post-4019303138283487392010-12-27T01:27:00.000-08:002010-12-27T02:12:15.270-08:00Unfailing LovePsalm 13:5<br /> But I trust in Your unfailing love, my heart rejoices in Your salvation.<br /><br />Psalm 31:16<br /> Let Your face shine on Your servant; save me in Your unfailing love.<br /><br />Psalm 32:10<br /> Many are the woes of the wicked, but the Lords unfailing love surrounds the man that trusts Him.<br /><br />Psalm 33:18<br /> But the eyes of the Lord are upon those who fear Him, on those who hope in His unfailing love.<br /><br />Psalm 33:22<br /> May Your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord, even as we put our hope in You.<br /><br />Psalm 36:7<br /> How priceless is Your unfailing love! If you don't, things are just going to be a million times harder and more confusing. Things fall apart without Christ as the center.<br /><br /><span style="color:#ff0000;">He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.</span><br /><span style="color:#ff0000;"><span id="SPELLING_ERROR_3" class="blsp-spelling-error">Colossians</span> 1:17</span><br /><span style="color:#ff0000;"></span><br /><span style="color:#000000;">Christ comes first and it is so important for us to remember that.</span><br />It's far too easy to just push God aside and say that we can do it on our own.<br />We can fix it on our own.<br />We can help ourselves.<br />We can heal our own hearts.<br />We can fix our own problems.<br />In other words, telling God we don't need Him.<br />It's so easy to think we can handle it on our own, but we can't.<br />We need God to be the center of every aspect of our lives.<br /><br />I've learned that you're going to find some of your best friends when you're going through the hardest times in your life. The people who are willing to be there for you when everything is wrong and you seem kinda crazy are the people worth keeping around. Its those people who don't care how many times you have told the story..if it makes you feel better they'll listen to it a hundred times. The ones who hurt because you are hurting and don't just tell you to get over it. The people who want to be around you when you are zero fun to be around are the people who are going to be your friends for life.<br /><br />I've learned that you can only give so much before you have to stop and leave the ball in the other person's court. You can try and try and try to fix things with someone, but if they don't want things fixed then things aren't going to get fixed. Sometimes you just have to stop and leave it up to them no matter how much you wish you could fix it. Let go and let God.<br /><br />I've learned that you can never ever ever lose hope. You can't lose hope that things will feel normal again one day. You can't lose hope that you're wildest dreams will come true. You can't lose hope about anything, because without hope it's very easy to just quit. Without hope, your outlook on everything becomes so <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_4" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">dismal</span>.<br /><br /><span style="color:#ff0000;">"Hope sees the invisible, feels the intangible, and achieves the impossible." -Anonymous</span><br /><br />I've also learned that too much stress/too much on my mind=zero sleep :/<br />At least I dont have class tomorrow :D<br /><br /><span style="color:#ff0000;"></span>KaleighBrookehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18169848439792366742noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8019289960182456788.post-50907566943410321742010-12-05T17:07:00.000-08:002010-12-05T17:16:34.811-08:00Sisterly BondingToday I learned that my sister and I can't grocery shop together.<br />We went in for milk, cookie cutters, gatorade, and downey.<br />Mom told us to be frugal.<br />We left having spent $100.<br />Clearly we dont know what that word means.<br />It also took us about 4 hours because we kept getting distracted looking at Christmas stuff.<br />We didnt like the cookie cutters we found at the first Walmart, so we went to Bed Bath and Body Works because we thought they would DEFINITELY have awesome cookie cutters.<br />They had none.<br />SO, we went to a different Walmart.<br />It took us 10 minutes to even find the cookie cutters.<br />We got some.<br />We went to checkout.<br />We forgot that the previous Walmart didnt have the right kind of milk, so we went back and got milk.<br />We went back to checkout.<br />We forgot that we forgot to get downey from the other Walmart, so we went back to get downey.<br />We got home and got everything put away just to realize we forgot the gatorade.<br />We wasted half out day in Walmart, but it was one of those days Im pretty sure I'll remember forever.<br />So blessed to have a sister who is also my best friend!! :)KaleighBrookehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18169848439792366742noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8019289960182456788.post-76262875265297688012010-12-04T21:53:00.001-08:002010-12-04T22:26:59.256-08:00Misplaced Trust<span style="color:#000000;">A couple days ago I learned that you may think you know someone, but sometimes they just have you completely fooled. Someone who seems the closest to Christ could actually be the farthest away. The person you think will never lie to you has been lying all along. It could be someone you've known for years or someone you've only known a short time. It could be the person you love or the person you've only met a couple times. The point is that some people are fake and really good at hiding it. It's hard to spot these people. It makes you wonder what people in your life are being real and what people have been lying to you. How do you trust anyone? How can you tell if you're being played? These people are usually very good at what they do and they know all the right things to say and do to make sure they have you fooled. I've struggled with trust since I found out someone very close to me had done nothing but lie to me over and over. I've been thinking a lot about trust lately and how awful it is that i feel like people in general can't be trusted. After things like this happen to you and to people close to you, you lose faith in people. That is so sad to me. I guess we just have to realize that people are going to let us down, yes, but not everyone will. Not everyone we let in is going to hurt us. We just have to put all our faith is Christ and make sure he remains the center and that we don't let someone who could potentially betray you take his place.</span> <span style="color:#ff0000;">"Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh, and whose heart turns away from the Lord." Jeremiah 17:5</span><br /><span style="color:#ff0000;"></span><br /><span style="color:#ff0000;">"But I trust in Your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in Your salvation." Psalm 13:5</span><br /><span style="color:#ff0000;"></span><br /><span style="color:#ff0000;">"Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture." Psalm 37:3</span><br /><span style="color:#ff0000;"></span><br /><span style="color:#000000;">People will let you down. God never will. Even when we have turned away from Him and even when we have placed our faith elsewhere, He will never let us down.</span>KaleighBrookehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18169848439792366742noreply@blogger.com0
